Calisthenics Freestyle World Cup wows crowd in Johannesburg

The annual Calisthenics Freestyle World Cup hosted by the South African Street Workout and Calisthenics Association (SASWCA) took place at Eastgate Shopping Centre in Johannesburg this past weekend. Local and international athletes came together to compete at this prestigious event, displaying feats of strength and gravity defying stunts that wowed spectators on the day.

The overall winner of the event was South African 19-year old Lutho Nkqayi. Calisthenics, the name of which means ‘beautiful strength’ in Greek is growing in popularity attracting men and women across the country to this sporting discipline. Nkqayi and the runners up will have the opportunity to compete at the Super Finals later this year, which will be held overseas.

Eastgate Shopping Centre wishes all the winners best of luck for the upcoming Super Finals. Nkululeko Makhaya, Chairman of SASWCA aims to continue to develop and promote Street Workout and Calisthenics on grass root level. “Let’s get off the couch South Africa and lets train” he said.
