Eastgate Shopping Centre’s 1megawatt (1MW) PV plant was commissioned for the parkade system at the centre, spanning over (x amount of space). This conscious investment in sustainability will generate almost 2 million kilowatt-hours (1 850 000 kWh) of electricity for the centre each year, resulting in the significant reduction of the asset’s carbon footprint by over 16 000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually. The PV plant for Eastgate Shopping Centre is a grid tied, free-standing installation which is synchronised with the centre’s generators. In the event of load shedding, the solar plant will operate in tandem with the generators, resulting in a reduced consumption of diesel. It is made out of Mono Crystalline technology, glass, aluminium and carbon steel, and comprises of 2 771 solar PV panels, and designed to last a minimum 25-year lifespan.
